On Saturday we stopped by the Oakland Flower Market. It's a great place to go for affordable around the house flowers, but also for flowers for weddings and events. Wear a sweater (required for cooler visits over 10 minutes!) and you can spend a while walking around the refrigerated rooms checking out all the different kinds of flowers they have. And that's not to mention the aisles of vases, ribbons, and all those little flower making supplies, like green floral tape and boutonniere pins, they have in spades as well.
To make these work, I picked some big fat flowers, football mums, that I thought could provide enough volume to rest on the edge of a vase. For a pop of color I added pink rununculuses — I love their wild, many layered, peony-on-a-budget vibe. The tuberose gives the whole thing a botanical accent, and obviously smells amazing. In fact, our whole house smells like a hothouse/perfume factory even days later. I'd kind of gotten out of the habit of picking up flowers, probably because a lot of local flower shops are pretty spendy, but these arrangements were relatively cheap and easy, and I can't wait to try out some different blooms!
