New Oakland Restaurant: Kronnerburger

Kronnerburger Kronnerburger recently opened on Piedmont Ave. in the former J Hamburger & Such location, and it’s a welcome addition to the neighborhood. Beautifully revamped and designed, light streams into the triangular space through banks of windows, an incredible terraced marble counter separates the dining room from the kitchen and there’s patio seating outside.

I’ve been twice so far, and everything I’ve tried has been delicious. There’s a nice selection of cocktails (mine was a daquiri homage to J & Such), wine selected by Bradford Taylor of local shop Ordinaire and fresh beers on tap.

Of course, I can’t speak to the namesake burger. But the salads are well-composed and thoughtful, featuring ingredients like thinly sliced chili and smoked coconut, and the earth burger is hearty, salty and savory with the optional addition of their unique yuba bacon, making Kronnerburger a pretty veg-friendly option for somewhere with ‘burger’ in the name. I can already see it becoming a lunch and dinner go-to.
